2024 Fall Sports Recap
Hemlock Public School District
2024 Fall Sports Recap
"Our Varsity Football team took on a very tall task this season. They were put through the hardest offseason Hemlock Football has had in years, they were faced with learning new offensive and defensive systems, and they played in a new conference alignment with new opponents. Our team was outsized in every game we played, but our guys kept fighting. Championships are not built overnight, and this year’s team had to face some of the growing pains of that shift in culture. These boys have laid the groundwork for what it means to be a Hemlock Football player. They’ve set the bar in terms of what a dedicated offseason looks like. I’m really proud of the work they put in, and future teams will have them to thank for creating a winning culture here at Hemlock. " -Coach Slate

Congratulations to all!
Varsity Volleyball had a successful season with an overall record of 19-13-6. We ended up
second place in our TVC blue conference with a record of 3-2. We played in multiple
tournaments against Division1 and 2 schools. Our top tournament finish this year was Second
Place at the “Spirit of St. Louis tournament. We received a buy in the first round of districts
and played extremely well in the semi finals defeating host team Ithaca in three straight
sets. Our energy and high level of play carried over to the district finals against Valley
Lutheran. We played our best Volleyball of the year but fell short to lose the match in 4 sets.
Hemlock played extremely hard and left nothing on the court. Well Done!

“We all have dreams. But in order to make dreams come into reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, self-discipline, and effort.” –Jesse Owens
These kids were so driven this season, setting goals and reaching those goals throughout it. Once kids figured out that there is more to cross country than just running, they fell in love with this sport. Seeing them get excited at each practice that we did our meet recaps (they couldn't wait to see their splits and how much they had improved from their last personal/season best) was awesome. I'm excited to see where this program is heading because I really do believe the future is bright for our running programs here at Hemlock!
From Coach Thiel:The 7th grade girls basketball team had a year full of growth and development with the help of a few 6th graders as well. With a record of 0-11, the team showed great improvement each and every game with some very close losses at the end of the season.
Sportsmanship award: Ella Bringer
The Hemlock Huskie 8th grade girls basketball team finished up a great season with 10 wins and 1 loss this Fall. Maylin Buckley and Sage LaVigne were great leaders on and off the floor for the Huskies with each of them scoring multiple 20+ point games and with notable defensive efforts as well. "The entire team has grown from their previous season with commitment to off season work, pushing each other in practice, and never settling for average. Their impressive season has high hopes for the future as 7 of the 11 players on the 8th grade team were 7th graders. These 7th graders rose to the occasion to better themselves with competing against the older opponents, and will all be a force to be reckoned with as they continue to grow their skills and basketball IQ" said head coach Abbi Brady. Coach went on to say, “I’m so unbelievably proud of these girls. They have shown grit, determination, and a love for the game this entire season. I can’t wait to see what the 8th graders go on to prove in high school, as well as the strength the 7th graders will come back with next year.”
Head Varsity Girls Basketball Coach, Scott Neumeyer shared his enthusiasm, "Congratulations to our 8th grade team on an outstanding season! You could see the foundation for this season being laid this summer when I saw the tremendous turnout from our middle schoolers at our summer workout program. They committed themselves to improving individually and collectively outside of their season, and that is where success during the season starts. Special thanks to Coach Abbi and Coach Vic for their tremendous leadership of the girls this season as well as Coach Kim and Coach Kylee who prepared them for their 8th grade season last year at the 7th grade level. The coaching staff and players represented our school and community at the highest level, and I couldn't be prouder of not only how they performed on the court, but also how they carried themselves off of it. The future of Huskie girls' basketball is certainly bright, and I look forward to seeing their continued development in the years to come!"
