Is it to cold? How do we decide?
With extremely cold temperatures this week, Hemlock Public School District is monitoring weather conditions to ensure the safety and well-being of our students and staff.
In lower peninsula Michigan, schools typically consider closing when the wind chill temperatures reach -20 degrees Fahrenheit or lower for a sustained two-hour period of time around bus pick-up time. If it becomes necessary to cancel school, we will promptly communicate any closures through our usual channels, including email, text, and phone calls, as well as updates on our social media platforms, district website, and local TV stations.
In the meantime, we encourage families to ensure their children are dressed appropriately for the frigid temperatures that will continue throughout the week. Warm coats, hats, gloves, and layers are essential to staying safe and comfortable during this cold snap.
Stay warm, Huskies!
7th Grade Boys Basketball vs Ithaca 2/10
The B team came out with a winning score of 37-21. Luca Cincinelli and Greyston Hendrickson dominated the boards! Luca had 12 rebounds and 11 points. Greyston had 10 rebounds and added 2 points. Dylan Mundell also had 11 points, and Bently Marker ended up with 6. Great Job, boys!
The A team came to play and won with a score of 45-35. Klay Smith led the team with 10 points and 5 rebounds. Bradley Kowalski followed right behind him with 9 points. Tatum Schmidt, Wyatt Wenzel and Roscoe Barckholtz all chipped in with 7 points a piece. Thatcher Hodges had 5 points. Nice hustle, boys!
8th Grade Boys Basketball vs Ithaca 2/10
Hemlock went out west in last night’s double header versus the Ithaca yellowjackets. Hemlock’s B team came out firing with Jackson Atkinson drilling all 8 of his points in the first quarter. Kaiden Knapik and Chase Barrigar both played lockdown defense, both tallying up 4 steals each. Down low Cam Peters and Dylan Roka controlled the paint with Cam scoring 4 points off of two high-arcing sky hooks and Dylan adding a season high 10 points from free throws, post moves, and a three point dagger. Huskies take the first game of the night, 25-19.
The second game of the night featured two heavy weight matchups between the huskies and the yellowjackets. Hemlock jumped out to an early lead, but got out hustled in the second quarter, pinning them down 12 at halftime. Coming out in the second half the huskies scrambled around in a full court press, causing turnovers, chaos, and a momentum shift. Andrew Reid’s aggressive defense helped lead the turning of the tides as he was diving on the floor like it was the ocean. Bo Galbraith helped the Huskies with 12 points of his own and a clutch block in the fourth quarter to keep it close. Throughout the entire game the Yellowjackets had no answer for Cal “The Beast” McFadden who put up a season high in points, rebounds, and blocks with 27-18 and 4. Unfortunately the deficit from quarter 2 was too large to overcome and hemlock dropped another close one. Final score was Ithaca 60 and Hemlock 52
