Howl About it? Help Name our Huskie!

Now that you're back to school, Huskies, let's play a round of "Name That Mascot"

Our big, tall, and handsome Huskie mascot needs a name—and we need your help. While he’s been a star on campus, he’s remained nameless… until now.

We’re looking for a fun, creative name that starts with H and fits this dashing guy perfectly. Drop your best ideas in the comments, and let’s name our Huskie together.

Is it to cold? How do we decide?

With extremely cold temperatures this week, Hemlock Public School District is monitoring weather conditions to ensure the safety and well-being of our students and staff.

In lower peninsula Michigan, schools typically consider closing when the wind chill temperatures reach -20 degrees Fahrenheit or lower for a sustained two-hour period of time around bus pick-up time. If it becomes necessary to cancel school, we will promptly communicate any closures through our usual channels, including email, text, and phone calls, as well as updates on our social media platforms, district website, and local TV stations.

In the meantime, we encourage families to ensure their children are dressed appropriately for the frigid temperatures that will continue throughout the week. Warm coats, hats, gloves, and layers are essential to staying safe and comfortable during this cold snap.

Stay warm, Huskies!

SPORTS RESULTS

7th Grade Boys Basketball vs Nouvel 1/27

7th Grade Boys traveled to Nouvel last night and came out on top with a score of 45-32. Leading the Huskies in points was Wyatt Wenzel with 13.  Klay Smith had 9 points. Tommy Holmes and Thatcher Hodges had 6 points and 7 rebounds each.  Tatum Schmidt lead the team in rebounds with 11, also scoring 4 points. Roscoe Barckholtz helped out with 5 points and Brad Kowalski with 2.  Way to go Huskies!

8th Grade Boys Basketball vs Nouvel 1/27

The Hemlock 8th grade B team hosted the Nouvel Panthers yesterday in the season home opener. The Huskies trailed at the end of the first quarter, but Bram Reidsma put a stop to that as soon as he came in scoring 8 of his 12 total points in the second quarter. Chase Barrigar made the bank stay open late as he banked in 8 points to help our team surge forward. Another 7 huge points were added in by Kaiden Knapik and Mikel LaFrance with 5. Hemlock 42 out-scoring Nouvel with 30.

In the second outing of our home double header, the Huskie A team also took on the Panthers A team. From the jump this game was very fast paced and high scoring with the lead going back and forth with each score. Sharpshooter Parker Coston hit two huge threes in the first half to keep the game in check with Hemlock down by 3 at halftime. The second half Bo Galbraith came out shooting, scoring several of his 9 total points in this half. Mason Miller controlled the pace of the game scoring 6 points but also dishing out 11 impressive assists. Many of these assists were to Cal McFadden who had a historic statline with 24 points, 17 rebounds, and 4 block shots. Unfortunately, in the fourth Nouvel hit some late shots pushing their lead up until it was too late. Hemlock 51: Nouvel 57.

8th Grade Boys Basketball vs Alma 1/29

It came down to the wire yesterday in Alma for your Hemlock B team. The lead went back and forth but the Huskies grasped a 12-10 point lead going into half. Hayden Massa led the charge with 7 points, with Mikel LaFrance on his tail adding 6 points of his own. With a minute left the Huskies were down by 4 but Kaiden Knapik drilled a huge three to bring Hemlock within 1. Camden Peters was getting steal after steal at the top of the press but Hemlock could not make the final layup to retake the lead. With 11 seconds left Hemlock had the ball out of bounds, Andrew Ried gave a perfect bounce pass to LeBram James Reidsma, who scored the final layup in the closing seconds of the game. Hemlock beats the buzzer, 20-19

The Panthers started hot in yesterday's A team matchup in Alma. Hemlock dug themselves a deep hole in the first 3 minutes that they couldn’t quite get out of the rest of the game. Throughout the game Cal McFadden was once again a beast scoring 26 points, grabbing 11 rebounds, swatting 3 shots, and taking away 2 steals. Parker Coston was also lighting it up, scoring 7 points and dishing out 3 assists. Another chunk of the points were assisted on by Mason Miller who had 7 assists and 3 steals. In the end the Huskies couldn’t get out of the hole from the first 3 minutes and lost 40-57.

7th Grade Boys Basketball vs Alma 1/30

The 7th grade B team had their first game against Alma last night and came out on top! Bentley Marker lead the team with 10 point’s and 4 rebounds.   Mason Williams followed right behind him with 9 points and 6 rebounds.   Final score of 29-20. Great Job to all the boys.

The 7th grade A team hustled hard for another Win! Klay Smith led the team with 12 points and 4 assists.  Bradley Kowalski, Roscoe Barckholtz, Tatum Schmidt and Wyatt Wenzel all scored 8 points each. Final score was 54-27. Great game boys!
