Congratulations to our Student of the Month- Ella Koscis

Ella is an engaged student at the SCC. She is the top of class in both sessions. Ella is a leader in and out of the classroom. In the classroom she is a student that inspires and elevates others with her "can do attitude." She assists in mentoring first year students and takes on teaching what it means "to serve others." In Ella's spare time she does Police ride alongs with Thomas Twp, Tittabawassee Twp. and the State Police. Ella also has a work based internship with the Saginaw Police Department. Ella goes to the Saginaw Police Department three days a week and works in the Detective Division, Records Division, and Patrol Division. She is a team player and will be a Police Officer as soon as she is able! Based on these great qualities, I'm wholeheartedly recommending Ella for student of the month! -Mr. Tait; Law, Security, and Public Safety Instructor

12/11 - Fr. Boys Basketball

The Hemlock freshmen boys improved to 4-0 with a solid 45-29 win over Valley Lutheran. Parker Coston earned player of the game honors by playing shut down defense all game. He had 9 steals (while causing multiple more turnovers), 6pts, and 3 assists. Paxton Odell scored a game high 12pts. Mason Miller finished with 9pts, 3steals, and 3 assists. Bo Galbraith filled up the stat sheet on both ends with 8pts, 10 rebounds, 3 steals, and 3 blocks. Charlie Hyatt had another solid game with 4pts, 6 rebounds, 4 steals, and 2 blocks. Ethan Wenzel pitched in 4pts. Dylan Roka rounded out the scoring with 2pts while grabbing 5 rebounds and blocking 2 shots. Cam peters finished with 4 rebounds and 2 steals. Chase Barrigar brought energy with 2 rebounds, 2 steals, and an assist. They look to stay undefeated as they travel to Cass City on the 16th. Special shout out to Jericho Orange and Grady Galbraith for providing the stats.

12/11 - JV Boys Basketball

The JV Huskies fell to the Valley Lutheran Chargers by a final score of 48-36. In a very back and forth game early, the Huskies hung tough, playing disciplined defense and creating good shots. The basket seemed to have a lid for the Huskies in the second, as nothing seemed to go in. Despite the rough shooting stretch, and falling behind by 17, Hemlock battled tough to close the third quarter and made it an 8 point game again. In the fourth the Chargers made some clutch buckets and put the game away. Hemlock was led by Bentley Baumer with 8 points and 6 from Cooper Gensch. Isiah Steinert and Graham Scoles played their best games of the year, providing many steals, rebounds, and energy from the bench.

12/12 - Var. Girls Basketball

The Hemlock girls' varsity basketball team defeated Valley Lutheran tonight by a score of 55-38. Hemlock was led by Maylin Buckley with 18 points. Victoria Hauffe added 12 points while Sage LaVigne added 9 points to go with her 6 rebounds.

Score By Quarter:

Hemlock: 20, 10, 18, 7 (55)

VLHS: 13, 10, 8, 7 (38)

12/12 - Var. Boys Basketball

Hemlock - 53    Valley Lutheran- 45

Record - 2-2      TVC  - 1-1

Hemlock Leaders

Cal McFadden - 20 Points, 10 Rebounds, 8 Blocks; Gavin Schmidt - 14 Points, 3 Rebounds; Kellan Schultz - 8 Points, 8 Rebounds, 5 Steals, 5 Assists, 2 Blocks; Dawson Davenport - 5 Points, 3 Assists; Ethan Long - 4 Points, 2 Assists

After some early struggles in the first quarter, this was the best game we've played.  Cal McFadden had an unbelievable night for a freshman.  He just missed out on a triple double coming up two blocks short.  Kellan Schultz was a stat stuffer in a number of categories and Gavin Schmidt continued his solid start to the season.  The team defense was really good all game and all players who got in the game made contributions.  It was great to get a win in the first boys basketball game played in the new gymnasium.

12/16 - Fr. Boys Basketball

The Hemlock freshmen traveled to cass city and couldn't quite overcome a slow start, dropping their first game of the season 36-47. Charlie Hyatt earned player of the game honors for the Huskies with 7pts, 8 rebounds, 2 steals, and 3 blocks. Bo Galbraith led the scoring with 10pts. Parker Coston had another strong game scoring 7 while adding 5 rebounds and 2 steals. Ethan Wenzel pitched in 4pts, 4 steals, and a block. Mason Miller scored 4pts. Cam Peters came off the bench to energize the defense, scoring 2pts and starting a 12-0 huskies run to bring the score to within 2 points. Paxton Odell showed great leadership and played hard all game rounding out the scoring with 2 pts. Dylan Roka grabbed 6 rebounds. The boys look to get back on track at home against Garber Dec 23rd.

12/16 - JV Boys Basketball

On Tuesday night the JV Huskies were defeated by the Cass City Red Hawks by a final score of 43-30. Hemlock played tough defense throughout the contest, but struggled offensively, holding a slight lead at halftime. In the second half, the Red Hawks made some timely jump shots and turned the Huskies over too many times, leading to good looks and ultimately their win. Hemlock was led on the night by Bentley Baumer with 8 points, while Tristyn Church and Cooper Gensch added 5 a piece. Hemlock looks to get back in the win column with its first home game on Thursday.

12/16 - Var. Girls Basketball

The Hemlock girls' basketball team travelled to Cass City tonight and defeated the Red Hawks by a score of 58-35. Sage LaVigne led the Huskies with 18 points. Victoria Hauffe added 10 points and Taryn Pratt finished with 8 points. Lia Hoffmann and Kinsley Conger each added 6 points.

Score By Quarter:

Hemlock: 16, 18, 11, 13 (58)

Cass City: 8, 5, 12, 10 (38)

12/16 - Var. Boys Basketball

Hemlock - 24     Cass City- 43

Record - 2-3      TVC  - 1-1

Hemlock Leaders

Cal McFadden - 9 Points, 6 Rebounds; Kellan Schultz - 5 Points; Gavin Schmidt and Brennan Meyer - 4 Points

Cass City was the aggressor from the beginning to the end.  They were the better team and deserved the victory.

Lets be Healthy Huskies

A Note From Nurse Becky

We hope this message finds you well! As we move further into the school year, we want to remind families of the importance of having an up-to-date medication authorization form on file for any student who may need medication during the school day.

If your child requires an EpiPen, inhaler, or any other prescribed or over-the-counter medication while at school, we must have the proper documentation completed and signed by both a parent/guardian and the child’s healthcare provider. This ensures we can safely and promptly assist your student in the event of a medical need.

Please note that medications cannot be given at school without a current medication form on file. This includes carrying or self-administering inhalers, EpiPens, or any other type of emergency medication.

Medication forms are available in the school office or can be downloaded from our district website. If you need assistance completing the form or have any questions about your child’s health plan, please don’t hesitate to contact our school nurse.

Thank you for helping us keep all students safe and healthy at school!
