MiCareerQuest

Hemlock High School is proud to spotlight the importance of job fairs in helping students explore real-world career experiences and discover future opportunities. Recently, students attended the MI Career Quest Job Fair at Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU)—a field trip organized by Miss Lennox and Miss Basse. The event provided students with hands-on exposure to dozens of industries, allowing them to interact directly with professionals and employers.

“Students don’t truly know what a career looks like until they’ve seen it first-hand,” said Principal Keith Green. “Opportunities like MI Career Quest bring learning to life. They help our students connect their classroom education to real-world experiences and inspire them to think about their futures in a meaningful way.”

The event featured a wide variety of career paths—from healthcare and manufacturing to technology, public service, and skilled trades. Students participated in interactive exhibits, tried out equipment, and learned about the training and skills needed to succeed in each field.

Hemlock Schools encourages other schools, community leaders, and local businesses to establish partnerships that create similar experiences. These collaborations not only benefit students by expanding their horizons but also help build a strong local employee pipeline to meet the future workforce needs of Michigan industries.

“The job fair gave our students the chance to ask questions, make connections, and see the possibilities that exist right here in our region,” said Miss Lennox. “It’s a powerful reminder that career readiness starts with exposure and opportunity.”

The pictures displayed below capture Hemlock High School students engaging with employers and exploring hands-on career exhibits during the MI Career Quest at SVSU — a truly inspiring day of learning and discovery.

Hey, What's for Lunch?

We are thrilled to announce that thanks to the Michigan School Meals Program, EVERY child at Hemlock Public School District, pre-K through 12th grade, will now be able to enjoy a delicious and nutritious breakfast and lunch for FREE!

Not only will this amazing program lighten the load on your wallet (we all know kids can eat their way through a pantry), but it'll save you precious time in the morning.

Now, here's the nitty-gritty: Although the meals are free, we do need all our parents to fill out the new free/reduced lunch application. This data is super important as it helps secure state and federal funding for this fantastic initiative.

Here's to full bellies, vibrant minds, and the #huskietastic school year ahead!

To add funds to your student's account for a la carte items, please use the following link:

Important Meal Information for Families

All students are currently eligible to receive free breakfast and/or lunch each school day. However, if a student chooses to take milk only, it is available for $0.50.

Free Meals Continue at Hemlock Although the State of Michigan has not yet finalized its budget, Hemlock Public Schools remains focused on what matters most, our students. For now, we’ll continue providing free meals to all students while we wait for more clarity on long-term funding from the State. Thank you for standing with us as we put kids first.

Dallas

Friday Night Lights just got better, meet Dallas!

As we prep lighting for future night track meets, we’re testing a supervised play zone for our elementary & middle school students—an auxiliary game at the game. Because let’s be honest: kids have always treated the pavilion like a NASCAR track, occasionally clipping the dad balancing three Diet Cokes and a nacho… and yes, splashing that puddle next to the brave mom in white pants (in October—bold choice).

Here’s the plan:
Where: Northwest of Wallace Field
Who: Elementary & middle school students
Supervision: Dallas, HHS senior (and all-around good guy)
Gear: Please don’t bring balls—we’ll provide them
Parents: We still encourage you to watch the game with your kids; this is just a helpful option

We’re learning as we go, so thanks for the grace. Brighter bulbs are literally on the way. See you under the lights!

Winter

If you are interested in participating in Winter or Spring sports, you need to sign up in FinalForms as soon as possible.  Coaches are trying to put together rosters, purchase uniforms, and gain an understanding of how many students are interested to see if we will have both Varsity and JV teams.

Visit from Brian Pruitt

Football Visiter

The Huskies were visited today by CMU Hall of Fame RB Brian Pruitt. His message was simple. If you want to be great, it comes down to 4 things you have the power to control: Heart, Attitude, Courage, and Consistency (HACC).

Brian played at every level of the game, including the NFL, and he reflected on how influential your HS playing days are. These teammates are the guys you’re going to lean on the rest of your life as husbands, fathers, and men out in the world. Fighting together as a team, specifically through the tough times, is what will define what kind of man you really are.

Greatness is a decision to be made everyday. It is not dictated by wins and losses, but by your eagerness to HACC it out.

Thanks again Brian for helping us #PullTheSled!

Player of the week

This week’s "Player of the Game", sponsored by Primetime Painting and Powerwashing, was Junior Captain, Offensive Lineman, #66 Sean Grove. As an athlete, there is always something to improve upon: some technique to perfect or some mentality to embody. This week, Sean’s goal was clear… We had identified a small technique flaw that was producing issues for us up front. Sean worked on it all week, and executed it to perfection in the game. He is the tip of the spear for our run game, and I was proud of his efforts Friday night. On to the next Sean Grove!

Sage LaVigne: 8 kills, Layne Robinson: 8 kills 2 blocks, Laci Harry: 15 assists 5 kills 2 aces, Lyndsey Lyscas: 16 assists 3 kills 2 aces, Riley Church: 5 kills, Ella Thom: 4 kills, Brooke Gustin: 7 digs, Maycee Vanderwall: 8 digs
The huskies had 25 kills, 34 assists, 5 blocks, 9 aces, and 31 digs.

10/8 - Trap Shooting

After 2nd week of competition Hemlock has moved up into 3rd place in Conference 4, lead by Sawyer Berger tied for 3rd in conference with season average of 23.75, followed by Caleb Roberson 16th in conference with season average of 21.50, Trevor McNeil and Greyson Leitz 18th in conference with season average of 21.25, and James Darby Jr 22nd in conference with season average of 21.

10/10 - JV Football

JV Football lost to MLS 34-12, MLS had better discipline and effort than the Huskies. Andrew Reid and Cal McFadden scored the two lone touchdowns for the huskies. JV will be home next week against Swan Valley.

10/10 - Soccer

First round district win!

Hemlock 1-0 Laingsburg

Goal - Charlie Hyatt, Assisted - Colton Siler

Another great defensive performance anchored by Captain Brennan Meyer

Keeper Braden Turner had his ninth clean sheet of the season

10/10 - Varsity Football

MLS - 57 Hemlock - 0

The Huskies’ offensive line played really well tonight. We were able to put a few drives together and physically move the line of scrimmage. However, a key injury to our senior captain Steven Katzenberger early in the game hamstrung us on both sides of the ball. Steven is the heart of our defense at MLB and a vital piece of our offense. Having low numbers in our skilled positions, made it tricky: we had guys playing positions they weren’t familiar with it really hampered play calling. We’re hopeful that Steven’s injury won’t hold him out for long, so that he can finish what’s been an amazing career as a Huskie.

10/11 - Cross Country

Bill Agresta Invite
Our Varsity XC teams competed on our home course at the Bill Agresta Invite. It was finally a perfect day for our athletes a cool fast morning. Medalists: Lydia Faubert, Kinley Gerow, Emma Jaremba, Zophia Zaleski, Lia Hoffman, Katie Fuller, Grady Galbraith

Athlete of the meet: Morgan Rames - (Lost shoe in first 10 meters ran the whole race with 1 Shoe after she was spiked and stepped on), Emma Jaremba - Lifetime PR, Katie Fuller - Lifetime PR, Lia Hoffman - Lifetime PR
