This Thursday, January 22nd, Saginaw Valley State University will be hosting Lake Superior State University in women's basketball at 5:30 p.m. The game will feature two former Hemlock girls' basketball players as Chloe Watson (Class of 2023) is a member of the LSSU women's basketball team, and Lauren Borsenik (Class of 2024) is a member of the SVSU women's basketball team.

We'd love to see Hemlock show up to support our former Huskies, so we've been able to secure a group discount rate on tickets for the games. Below is a link to purchase tickets for the game. If you enter promo code HemlockHS122 at checkout, you will get $3 off the regular ticket price. Your ticket will also get you admission to the men's game that will follow the women's game. Please be aware that SVSU is a cashless facility, so no cash will be accepted for admission or concessions.

We'd love to see a big Hemlock crowd there to support Chloe and Lauren! Hope to see you Thursday!

1/15 Freshman Boys Basketball

The freshmen Huskies picked up another win defeating MLS 39-40. Charlie Hyatt dominated the first half and finished the game with 14pts, 7 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 block, and player of the game honors. Parker Coston scored 8pts to go with 3 steals. Mason Miller had a strong night leading the offense while posting 6pts, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Bo Galbraith added 5pts. Ethan Wenzel grabbed 8 rebounds while adding 2pts and 2 assists. Paxton Odell found ways to contribute on both ends of the floor, adding 2pts, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 5 steals. Chase Barrigar, Dylan Roka, and Jackson Atkinson all added valuable minutes throughout the game. Cam Peters rounded out the huskie scoring with 2pts. Good win fellas!

1/15 JV Boys Basketball

The JV Huskies were defeated by the Michigan Lutheran Seminary Cardinals by a final score of 47 to 34. This was a classic game of 2 very different halves. In the first half Hemlock played a really sound game, defending with energy, rebounding as a team, and finding ways to score. At the half, the Huskies led 24-16. The second half was a different story, and after hitting two quick jumpers, the Cardinals did not look back, forcing many turnovers and taking the Huskies out of their game in route to their victory. Hemlock will look to bounce back with two good days of practice before traveling to Carson City next Monday. Markus Plowden and Sam Dunton led the way for the Huskies in scoring, each reaching double figures, while Tristyn Church and Graham Scoles added 6 rebounds a piece.

1/16 Varsity Boys Basketball

Hemlock - 36    MLS - 55

Hemlock Leaders

Gavin Schmidt - 16 Points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals

Cal McFadden - 7 Points

Dawson Davenport - 7 Points

Ethan Long - 4 Points, 3 Assists

MLS showed why they are leading the league in the contest on Friday night.  The Huskies stayed close for the first half but ran out of gas in the 3rd quarter as the MLS press caused turnovers and easy baskets for the home team.

1/16 Varsity Girls Basketball

The Hemlock girls' basketball team travelled to Michigan Lutheran Seminary tonight and came away with a 57-37 victory. Victoria Hauffe led the Huskies with 19 points. Addison Stockford scored 11 points while Sage LaVigne added 9 points. Maylin Buckley finished with 7 points while Lia Hoffmann scored 6 points.

Score by Quarter:

Hemlock: 14, 15, 20, 8 (57)

MLS: 13, 8, 4, 12 (37)

1/17 Powerlifting Meet

Hemlock Powerlifters had a great first meet on Saturday in Farwell.

The girls brought home a school record - 4 medals!

Emma Jaremba, Jalynn Bauman, and Lydia Faubert finished 1st in their weight classes.

Kaylee Burns finished 2nd and Haleigh Andrew finished in the top 10.

For the boys, Brayden Stanard qualified for states. Sean Grove and Gavin Schmidt set PRs in their deadlifts with Gavin deadlifting 495.

Kaiden Knapik, Jack Killingbeck, and Alejandro Garza had solid first meets, all finishing in the top ten in their weight classes.

Hemlock Powerlifters will be back in the weightroom preparing for their next meet at Millington on January 31st.

1/20 JV Boys Basketball

On Tuesday night, the JV Huskies were victorious over visiting Carson City-Crystal by a final score of 61-15. Hemlock played well on Tuesday, getting everyone involved, pushing the pace, and executing the game plan on both ends. Roman Smith provided an early spark for the Huskies making 2 first quarter 3 pointers, in route to a 14 point night with 5 steals, and the boys never looked back from there. Cooper Gensch added 12 to the point total, while Brayden Stanard and Tristyn Church added 9 and 8 respectively. The boys look to translate this momentum to a big win on Thursday when Hemlock hosts Carrollton.

1/20 Varsity Boys Basketball

Hemlock - 59    Carson City - 20

Hemlock Leaders

Ethan Long - 12 Points, 5 Steals, 4 Rebounds

Cal McFadden - 11 Points, 6 Rebounds

Gavin Schmidt - 10 Points, 6 Rebounds, 3 Steals

Kellan Schultz - 9 Points, 5 Rebounds

Bentley Baumer - 6 Points, 3 Steals

Brennan Meyer - 5 Points

Charlie Clark - 4 Points, 4 Rebounds

The Huskies played a solid defensive game to earn the victory.  I also thought the team got a lot of contributions from guys off of the bench.   Ethan Long, Bentley Baumer, and Charlie Clark played their best games of the season thus far.

Middle School & Varsity Pom Pon

Big News from the Huskie Pack! We’re excited to share that both our Middle School and High School Pom teams have officially qualified for STATES! Lets be Healthy Huskies

A Note From Nurse Becky

We hope this message finds you well! As we move further into the school year, we want to remind families of the importance of having an up-to-date medication authorization form on file for any student who may need medication during the school day.

If your child requires an EpiPen, inhaler, or any other prescribed or over-the-counter medication while at school, we must have the proper documentation completed and signed by both a parent/guardian and the child’s healthcare provider. This ensures we can safely and promptly assist your student in the event of a medical need.

Please note that medications cannot be given at school without a current medication form on file. This includes carrying or self-administering inhalers, EpiPens, or any other type of emergency medication.

Medication forms are available in the school office or can be downloaded from our district website. If you need assistance completing the form or have any questions about your child’s health plan, please don’t hesitate to contact our school nurse.

Thank you for helping us keep all students safe and healthy at school!
